New York Post girls soccer beat writer Joseph Staszewski breaks down Sunday’s PSAL Class A final.

Who: No. 1 Bronx Science vs. No. 2 Beacon

When: Sunday, 2 p.m.

Where: Randall’s Island

Bronx Science Wolverines

Head coach: Josh Zuckerman

Record: 15-0

Player to watch: Stephanie Mazursky

How they got here: Defeated No. 4 Tottenville, 3-2, in the semifinals

Beacon Blue Demons

Head coach: Kevin Jacobs

Record: 15-0

Player to watch: Sophie Kligler

How they got here: Defeated No. 3 MSIT, 2-1, in the semifinals

Outlook: When the two teams met in a non-league game Bronx Science prevailed, 1-0. A similarly tight game should also occur with everything on the line as both squads are two of the best defensively in the PSAL.

Beacon can struggle at times against more physical teams, something Bronx Science certainly is. No one plays with more precision on offense than the Blue Demons and they have a plethora of weapons, including Elsa Hardy and Sophie Kligler. Freshman Tyler Sloan scored the winner in the second overtime against MSIT, which beat them in last season’s final. Beacon won the city championship in spring 2008.

Bronx Science, making its first final appearence since 2004, accomplished the first of its two goals this season. The monkey of three straight semifinals losses is now gone and the Wolverines can play free and easy in the final. A let down won’t be a problem with this veteran bunch. Star midfielder Taylor Murtaugh is well less than 100 percent because of legs injuries, but her long throw-ins are a weapon you can’t prepare for.

Like Beacon they are balanced offensively with Alexandra Bushman and Stephanie Mazursky among others. The game may come down to Beacon’s speed against a slower, physical Science defense and the Wolverines’ flat-out will to finish this memorable season with a title.
