One of the PSAL’s best commissioners wasn’t able to do something he loves this week – watching the girls volleyball playoffs.
Freddie Rodriguez, a longtime volleyball coach at Aviation HS and the well-liked girls volleyball commissioner, had a minor stroke this Monday and is currently resting comfortably in a Queens hospital.
It’s going to be upsetting Sunday if he isn’t able to make the PSAL Class A and B girls volleyball semifinals Sunday at Hunter College. Rodriguez is a guy who tries his damndest to see every single team of consequence during the regular season to assure accurate seeding. He’s constantly at weekend tournaments watching the teams and players. Rodriguez even came to the Seward Park tournament back in early October with his father sick in the hospital.
There are few people as dedicated to his sport as Rodriguez is and we at NYPost.com want to wish him a speedy recovery. It just won’t be the same without him Tuesday helping hand out the trophy and medals to the 2010 girls volleyball champions.
“I’ll be back stronger than ever,” Rodriguez said via text Friday.
We have no doubt.
