The biggest PWHL season yet will end with a familiar result for the Sirens.

New York was eliminated from playoff contention with Tuesday night’s 1-0 overtime victory over the Toronto Sceptres.

Allyson Simpson scored at 2:42 in overtime to win the game, but it was just a little too late for their postseason hopes.

Kayle Osborne stopped 21 shots for New York, which came in three points back of the Sceptres and needed a regulation win to avoid elimination.

Raygan Kirk made 32 saves for Toronto, which remained two points behind the Ottawa Charge for the fourth and final playoff spot.

The Sirens improved in Year 3 after recording back-to-back last-place finishes.

They were in postseason position into the middle of the season, but a stretch of nine losses in 10 games on either side of the league’s Olympic break ultimately doomed them to finish on the outside of the top four in the standings.

An April 4 win in front of a record-setting crowd at Madison Square Garden stoked their hopes, but the Sirens couldn’t climb past sixth place in the expanded eight-team league.

The silver lining to their inability to get over the playoff hump?

The Sirens, who wrap up the regular season Saturday in Boston, are now in prime position to land a top three pick in the upcoming draft.

This draft class is headlined by a trio of college stars from the gold-medal-winning Team USA: defender Caroline Harvey (Wisconsin), forward Abbey Murphy (Minnesota) and forward/defender Laila Edwards (Wisconsin).
