JET REPORT CARD

QUARTERBACKS: B

Brooks Bollinger (14-of-26, 119 yards, 1 TD, 78.8 rating) managed the game very well with no turnovers. He was also great on the run with 56 yards in scrambles, good for four first downs.

RUNNING BACKS: B+

Rookie Cedric Houston (28-74, TD rushing) and B.J. Askew (9-54 rushing) had career days in the absence of injured Curtis Martin.

WIDE RECEIVERS: B

Justin McCareins (4-45, TD), Laveranues Coles (3-30) and Jerricho Cotchery (1-9) contributed with some key catches, though both McCareins and Coles had drops.

TIGHT ENDS: C

Doug Jolley had two catches for 15 yards against his former mates from Oakland, but he dropped a sure TD pass, forcing the Jets to settle for a FG.

OFFENSIVE LINE: A

Excellent job of protection. Bollinger was sacked twice and they were coverage sacks. C Pete Kendall did a solid job on huge DT Ted Washington. Run blocking was very good opening holes.

DEFENSIVE LINE: A

DE John Abraham was a star with two sacks and two forced fumbles to go with five tackles. DTs James Reed and Lance Legree were active.

LINEBACKERS: A

Jonathan Vilma (11 tackles and a forced fumble) was very active in the run game. Mark Brown had four tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.

SECONDARY: B

CB Ty Law had an INT, his sixth of the season. CB David Barrett had a late pick. S Erik Coleman led the way with six tackles.

SPECIAL TEAMS: C+

OK job of kickoff coverage (22.7-yard average on six KOs). Justin Miller had a 31-yard average on two returns and nearly broke one.

KICKING GAME: B

Ben Graham had a strong game, punting four times for a gross average of 41.3 yards and a net of 40.3 yards. Mike Nugent was 4-for-4 on FGs, but his kick offs were very short, including one out of bounds.

COACHING: A

You have to credit Herman Edwards for having the team so fired up for a game at 2-10. Offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger has Bollinger playing well and he and line coach Doug Marrone did some good things with protection. Donnie Hen- derson had defense playing well.
