ANAHEIM – On his first day as a Diamondback, Raul Mondesi questioned Joe Torre’s communication skills and offered that as the reason he left Fenway Park Sunday night before the final out, which broke one of Torre’s few rules. That led Mondesi to getting traded Tuesday night for outfielder David Dellucci and two minor leaguers.

“He pinch-hit for me and didn’t tell me why,” Mondesi said last night in Miami, where the Diamondbacks lost to the Marlins, 3-1. “If he tells me, fine. But he never told me.”

Mondesi, who grounded out as a pinch-hitter last night, took a swipe at Torre when he said, “I liked the city and the fans, but nobody does that [pinch-hit]. When they take your confidence away there is no way you can swing well. I never hit eighth before and even when I was hitting .340 I was hitting eighth.”
