Red Bull defender Carlos Johnson is having surgery within the hour on his broken foot. His return timeline is indefinite.

“For him to get hurt like that, it sucks; but it just speeds up opportunities for guys,” said rookie Jeremy Hall, likely to play right back in Johnson’s absence. “I’m just going to step in and try and do a good job and keep it the same way as before his injury.”

The Costa Rican fullback suffered a broken fifth metatarsal when he was stepped on by Houston’s Stuart Holden Saturday. Here is a clip below the jump, thanks to the good people over at Red Bulls Reader….

Players heal at different rates, but I’ve frequently seen this injury take 6-8 weeks to heal. Nobody really knows how long the 24-year-old will be out, but Hall _ still making the adjustment from left winger at Maryland _ is going to get some on-the-job training, with little rest.

“It’s just consistency and trying to stay positive,” Hall said. “It’s going to be hard if I’m the only one playing back there; it’s a lot of games. I just have to keep my mind right.”
