This summer, The Post has brought you into the world of Mary Louis and Positive Direction rising senior guard Reana Mohamed as she plays through the final stage of her college search in front of hundreds of coaches during the live recruiting period. This is entry No. 4 of 5 that will appear. The final entry is slated for August 1.
The Battle on the Bayou in New Orleans was an OK tournament for my Positive Direction team. Our record was 1-3, although it doesn’t show how hard we played hard in. Even though we were losing, college coaches were still coming to our games.
Other players that stood out were Elisabeth Gully, Jasmine Nwajei, and Kate Goldman. Elisabeth was strong on the boards and was a great help in the paint. Jasmine Nwajei attacked the basket well. Kate Goldman was strong in the paint and also helped with rebounds. Emily Arias also hit some big shot for us when needed.
As for me, the trip was great. I felt that I played at my best each game. I worked on pulling up to avoid an offensive foul call instead of always going to the basket and it was successful for me.
On a lighter note, all of my teammates and I made sure to memorize the address of the Nike Store. That was a must-stop place because of the discounts. All of us bought zip-up jackets.
I also picked up some new college interest since playing at the Nike Summer Showcase in Chicago two weeks ago and hopefully as I return to New York I will have even more schools contacting me. Northeastern, Wagner, the University of Pennsylvania and Washington College have all begun to show interest. I haven’t begun narrowing my list down, but I will start to do so as I take more unofficial visits during the upcoming months. Colleges like Virginia Commonwealth, Temple, Bucknell, Cornell, George Mason, Temple, James Madison, Farleigh Dickinson and Northern Arizona among others had interest in me before the summer started.
This trip concludes my summer traveling. I personally believe I had a great summer and never took a minute off. As for my team, I believe we played great basketball. At first we had a hard time coming together but in the end we figured out what worked for us and what we needed to work on.
While our out-of-state travel has come to a close that doesn’t mean the summer season is over for Positive Direction. You can find us this Saturday at Fordham University for the Rose Summer Classic.
