Players that haunted the Mets for seasons continue to make their way into the AL East and become the Yankees’ problem.
First Pat Burrell signed with the Rays and now former Braves pitcher John Smoltz is on the verge of joining the Red Sox. MLB.com was the first to report the news.
Smoltz, recovering from shoulder surgery that limited him to six appearances last season, will likely be shelved until May. It is one-year, $5.5 million deal, but could be worth more based on incentives.
According to multiple reports Boston is also close to bringing in oft-injured Rays OF Rocco Baldelli.
