TAMPA — Reggie Jackson stopped by Angels camp yesterday in Arizona to firm up the club honoring him Opening Day when the Yankees visit Anaheim. And the Yankees’ consultant found time to visit with Jim Edmonds, the subject of serious trade rumors involving the Yankees.

Jackson told the Gold Glove center fielder that he would love playing in New York if he ever had the chance.

“They are World Champions and that’s not a bad place to play,” Jackson told Edmonds, whom GM Bill Stoneman took off the trading block Sunday. “As long as George [Steinbrenner] owns them, they will be competitive.”
