Nate Robinson’s wallet is $1 million lighter thanks to Mike D’Antoni and the Celtics.
Robinson’s contract had a $1 million bonus in it if he played in 58 games and his team made the playoffs, according to an ESPN report. Robinson fell short when Boston sat him during two late-season games against the Cavaliers and Raptors.
The number would not have been in doubt if not for a dispute with D’Antoni that led the Knicks coach to bench Robinson for 14 consecutive games in December. But with the Knicks unlikely to make the playoffs, the bonus seemed a long shot anyway.
But when the Knicks traded Robinson to the postseason-bound Celtics on Feb. 23 the bonus was back in play until those two late DNPs limited Robinson to 56 games.
