ESPN’s Buster Olney (Insider’s only) is reporting that the Red Sox are pursuing a deal for a shortstop with Orlando Cabrera and Jack Wilson the team’s top two choices.
Cabrera is hitting .236 this season for the Athletics, but was a part of Boston’s 2004 World Series team and is a defensive upgrade over Julio Lugo. Lugo is hitting .256 for the Red Sox and has played in 26 of the Red Sox 57 games because of injuries.
Wilson, who plays for the Pirates, is a enticing option because of his $6 million salary, reports Olney.
Speaking of trades, it appears there will be a market for Carl Pavano, who signed a one-year deal with the Indians before the season. After an awful 0-3 start for Cleveland, Pavano has gone 6-1 with a 3.00 ERA. Every Yankees fan should now take a four-minute break from work. One for every year Pavano stole money from George Steinbrenner.
