Buck Showalter could be nearing a return to the AL East.

ESPN.com reports the former Yankees manager is in the lead to get the same job with the Orioles.

Showalter interviewed for the position a week and a half ago, but the Orioles are in no rush to name a replacement for the fired Dave Trembley.

Former Indians manager Eric Wedge and Orioles announcer Rick Dempsey are the other candidates, while Juan Samuel serves as the interim skipper.

Bobby Valentine also interviewed for the position, but removed his name from consideration when he seemed to be a lock to take over the Marlins.

Showalter managed the Diamondbacks and Rangers after his stint with the Yankees.
