Al Skinner talked to Rutgers officials on Friday about their vacant men’s basketball coaching job, according to Boston.com.

The report says, “According to sources familiar with the situation, Skinner met with Rutgers officials … in the New Jersey area and talked for 2 1/2 hours.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the talks went well and Skinner is very much in the mix.”

Skinner is on a list of candidates that reportedly includes former St. John’s coach Fran Fraschilla and Robert Morris coach Mike Rice.

The report also says Skinner “received calls of support from Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski, North Carolina coach Roy Williams, and former Rutgers player and NBA coach Eddie Jordan” and “could emerge as the front runner.”

Rutgers parted with Fred Hill last month after the coach was involved in a verbal altercation at a Scarlet Knights baseball game.
