Sounds like Alex Rodriguez will have to explain his use of performance enhancers to — Cal Ripken Jr.
The Palm Beach Post reports that Ripken wants an answer from his friend of 16 years.
“I really want to know why,” Ripken said after a banquet in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Thursday. “I’m going to make it my business to find out.” The paper reports Ripken did not address performance-enhancing-drug use in baseball during a 40-minute speech to the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s Men’s Night Out.
But afterward, the Orioles Hall of Famer said, “The steroid era really puts a dark cloud over baseball,” Ripken said. “And that dark cloud is hanging and hanging.”
Rodriguez memorably moved from shortstop to third base in the 2001 All-Star Game so Ripken could play his final one at the position he started his career.
Rodriguez has admitted to using a substance called “boli” while with the Rangers from 2001-03.
