Seemingly beaten on turn as she dropped back to forth, Rond Pound, favored at 2-1 in stellar field of six 3-year-old fillies, swung outside top of stretch, came on again under Stewart Elliott, rallying down center of track with explosive charge to win yesterday’s Grade 1, $250,000 Acorn Stakes by 1½ lengths.

Smuggler also kicked in late to get second, head in front of In the Gold, who made bold last-to-first move wide around turn to take lead furlong out but couldn’t sustain bid.

Trained by John Servis of Smarty Jones fame, Round Pond ran mile in 1:35.1 to pay $6.50, keying $51.50 exacta.

1ST RACE – In off-turfer, Shots, Rich Migliore up, went to lead in hand, pressed by Island Charm under Norberto Arroyo, with 9-5 favorite Transept getting garden trip tucked in behind pace under Edgar Prado. Island Charm went up to challenge Shots around turn, took lead top of stretch, drew clear, with Shots hanging on for place. Transept came up empty.

2ND RACE – Arroyo completed sweep of $108 early double aboard 19-1 Paraneck firster Treaty Buster. He dashed to front, dropped back to second as Atm Angie’s Rodeo came up outside to open daylight lead around turn, swung out, regained lead top of stretch, held off Heresheis, coupled with Naomi’s Hope as 4-5 Linda Rice entry, in long drive.

3RD RACE – The track was upgraded to good. Seeking the Money, 11-1 under Eibar Coa, set pace, pressed by 9-1 Taking the Redeye, Edgar Prado up. Those two dueled around turn. Taking the Redeye took short lead mid-stretch, Seeking the Money dug in gamely but settled for second as Taking the Redeye edged clear late. El Prado Rob saved ground stalking pace under Rafael Bejarano, swung out rallying top of lane, loomed big threat furlong out, hung. Defrere’s Vixen rallied widest of all on turn to loom boldly turning for home, flattened out.

5TH RACE – Five scratched in off-turfer left field of four racing for 46G purse. Quiet Period set pace under Rich Migliore, pressed by main-track-only Tacit Agreement, 6-5 choice with J.D. Bailey in boot making first start since October. Those two dueled around turn, with Tacit Agreement taking command top of stretch, repulsing outside bid of Crhme of Champagne, Javier Castellano up, then drawing clear late despite racing erratically down lane. Crhme of Champagne easily held second as other two starters, Quiet Period and Hongkong, were all but eased.
