The Cubs have gone 20-10 since July 1, and are 13-5 since the All-Star break, the best mark in the majors.

In Pittsburgh, Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman homered for Washington. Andrew McCutchen homered for the fourth time in three games for the Bucs.

In Los Angeles, Ryan Braun had a three-run homer and Trevor Hoffman got Manny Ramirez on a bases-loaded fly to right to end the game.

In San Diego, Mat Latos (3-1) pitched seven strong innings and fellow rookie Will Venable drove in the go-ahead run and made a run-saving catch.

In Houston, Geoff Blum and Kaz Matsui homered off Matt Cain (12-3) and the Astros snapped the San Francisco ace’s six-start unbeaten streak.
