The Toronto Sun claims the Angels have the best chance of trading for Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, with the Yankees right behind.
Writer Bob Elliott says infielder Brandon Wood, and pitching prospects Trevor Reckling or Jordan Walden could get the deal done.
Elliott says the Yankees likely would have to include Phil Hughes in any deal. ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian said today the Blue Jays are looking for at least four players in return and that the pitcher would prefer an American League team because he does not like to bat.
He mentioned the Phillies, Rangers and Cardinals as top candidates to land the All-Star starter. Kurkjian said the Red Sox likely were out of the bidding.
The Toronto Star speculates that Halladay is resigned to the fact he’ll be traded.
“From his demeanour and the forthright approach he took regarding the possibility of a trade, it seems in Halladay’s own mind he has already moved on,” Richard Higgins writes.
However, the Boston Globe reports the Blue Jays will not grant an accepting team the chance to negotiate a contract extension for the 32-year-old right-hander, which could turn off interested teams.
Halladay is signed through next season.
ESPN Insider writes that the Phillies, the semmingly early favorite, would be the best landing sport for Halladay, worth four extra wins to the team.
The Yankees, Red Sox and Rays were not included, based on the premise the Blue Jays won’t trade Halladay within the AL East.
