Rutgers will play six teams next season that played in bowls this past year, but only one from outside of the Big East.

The Scarlet Knights released their 2010 schedule yesterday, and the two non-league games that stand out are a Sept. 25 game in Piscataway vs. North Carolina, an 8-5 ACC bowl team; and an Oct. 16 game vs. Army at the new Meadowlands Stadium.

But, just like last year, the strength of schedule picks up in league play, and the Scarlet Knights — considering coach Brian Kelly is no longer with two-time defending champion Cincinnati — should have as good a shot as any to win the Big East.

At home, the Scarlet Knights play UConn (Oct. 8), Syracuse (Nov. 13), and Louisville (Nov. 26).

On the road, Rutgers plays at Pitt (Oct. 23), South Florida (Nov. 3), Cincinnati (Nov. 20), and West Virginia (Dec. 4). All four teams made bowls last season, including two (the Bearcats and Mountaineers) held on New Year’s Day.
