Although Jets GM Terry Bradway said yesterday that he was “cautiously optimistic” that No. 1 pick Santana Moss would be signed and in camp in time for today’s reporting deadline, signs last night pointed toward the possibility of a short holdout.

Moss has until 5 p.m. today to report. As of last night, though, no deal had been struck and Moss was still at home in Florida awaiting the call to head north.

“There’s nothing new at this point,” Bradway said. “Mike [Tannenbaum, the Jets’ salary-cap specialist] and Drew [Rosenhaus, Moss’ agent] have a few hurdles still to overcome.”

When it was suggested that there might not be an urgency for Moss to be here until Monday’s practices begin, Bradway said, “In his mind, [Moss] wants to be part of the team regardless of whether it’s a meeting, a running session or a practice. Hopefully, [tomorrow] we’ll be talking about how he’s going to be doing in practice.”

Rosenhaus said late in the day that a deal “probably” wouldn’t be done by the end of last night.

“We’re just working hard right now,” Rosenhaus said.

In other news, the Jets yesterday re-signed tackle Ryan Young.
