“NFL RedZone” host Scott Hanson made a pretty substantial mistake on-air during Sunday’s slate of games.

Hanson relayed the breaking news that former First Lady Rosalynn Carter died at the age of 96 during the broadcast, and referred to her husband as “the late President Jimmy Carter.”

However, the 99-year-old Carter is alive.

Hanson reported Rosalynn’s death after CBS ran a breaking news graphic, which was covered by the “NFL RedZone” banner at the bottom of the screen.

“Our crawl at the bottom of the screen was covering up the CBS News special report,” Hanson said on the broadcast.

“I’ll just pass along to you that Rosalynn Carter, the wife of the late president Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 96.

“Rosalynn Carter and Jimmy Carter were married for 77 years.

“That was the breaking news report at the bottom of the screen there.”

Hanson then corrected himself shortly after on-air.

“By the way, but I just shared the Rosalynn Carter information,” he said.

“I believe I accidentally said ‘the late Jimmy Carter.’

“Jimmy Carter [is] still alive. Rosalynn Carter has passed away at the age of 96.”

Some NFL fans watching “RedZone” took to X to share their reaction.

“I am losing my mind at Scott Hanson having to correct himself and say that Jimmy Carter is not, in fact, dead,” one person wrote.

“I was like, wait did I miss something?” another added.

The Carter Center announced Rosalynn passed away peacefully at her home in Plains, Ga. with family by her side.

Rosalynn was living with dementia, her family said in May 2023.

She joined the former president In hospice care at their Plains home in November.

“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” former President Jimmy Carter said in the statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it.

“As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”
