Sunday night football? No match for the World Series — at least this time.

A close Game 4 between Texas and St. Louis drew a higher preliminary television rating than the football rout between New Orleans and Indianapolis. The Rangers led the Cardinals 1-0 into the sixth inning, and won 4-0. The game, on Fox, earned a 10.1 overnight rating and 16 share.

Over in the NFL, the Saints led 21-0 after the first quarter over the Colts — still playing without Peyton Manning — and rolled to a 62-7 victory to draw an 8.2/13 on NBC.

On Oct. 31, 2010, a 20-10 win by the Saints over the Steelers on “Sunday Night Football” earned an 11.8/18 while Game 4 of the World Series between the Giants and Rangers (coincidentally also a 4-0 game, won by San Francisco) drew a 10.4/16.

Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program. Shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time. Overnight ratings measure the country’s largest markets.
