Shannon Sharpe explained that he could relate to the “pressure cooker” Sherrone Moore is in after the Michigan coach was fired Wednesday for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, and later detained for alleged assault.
During the latest installment of “NightCap” podcast, Sharpe — who settled a $50 million sexual assault lawsuit from a woman in July — was visibly emotional as he weighed in on Moore’s situation.
“Six months ago I went through something very similar, so I know what that storm is like and unless you’ve been in it,” Sharpe, who was taken off the air at ESPN after news of the lawsuit broke, said, “you don’t know what you would do until you’re in it, in that pressure cooker, in the eye of the storm.

Getty Images“… Everything you worked your entire life for, you feel like it’s crumbling right before your eyes. And the only people that are going to be there are going to be a select few. That’s the hardest part.”
Michigan fired Moore on Wednesday after it found “credible evidence” that the coach engaged in an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”
The staff member’s name has not been released.
Moore, 39, was detained by Pittsfield police department on Wednesday for an alleged assault and kept overnight.
“The incident does not appear to be random in nature and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community,” a media release said of Moore’s arrest.
Moore is a father to three young girls, and his wife, Kelli Moore, welcomed a baby over the summer.

Getty Images“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement.
Moore signed a five-year contract with a base annual salary of $5.5 million last year.
The university will not have to buy out the remaining years of his contract because he was fired for cause, according to the terms of his deal.
Moore coached Michigan to a 17-8 record over those two seasons, and the school credits him with an additional win during the 2023 regular season.
The Wolverines went 9-3 in the 2025 regular season and are set to play the Texas Longhorns in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31.
