It was just a flesh wound.

Wayne Rooney was temporarily sent off the field during Manchester United’s matchup with Manchester City on Sunday after accidentally butting heads with defender Vincent Kompany.

With blood flowing down the back of his head, Rooney paused from play to run over to the sideline and insouciantly get his head stapled. To stem the flow of the blood rushing from the gash, a team doctor used a staple gun to patch Rooney’s skin together.

The 30-year-old captain then jogged back on the field as if staples were not holding his scalp together.

The gutsy move didn’t turn out to be a winning one, though, as the rivalry finished a 0-0 draw.
