The New York Cosmos inked Long Island-bred defender Jimmy Nealis for the rest of the NASL fall season.
The 22-year-old Nealis, a Massapequa High School graduate, played four years for Georgetown, leading the Hoyas to the 2012 College Cup final. The 6-foot-defender was picked by Houston in the second round of the MLS draft, but was waived after an injury in the preseason.
After having surgery, Nealis has been rehabbing in New York and training with the Cosmos for the past few weeks, doing enough to impress coach Giovanni Savarese and earn a contract.
“Jimmy has been training with us for a few weeks now and has showed a nice work ethic,” Savarese said. “He looks good on the field and will provide some nice depth for us at left back.”
