Manchester City is opening their 2025 Champions League campaign against Napoli, as a familiar face returns home.
Following the conclusion of the 2024-25 Premier League season, Kevin De Bruyne left Man City after 10 seasons and 19 trophies with the Sky Blues and signed with Italian side Napoli. With just three Serie A matches under his belt, De Bruyne will return to Etihad as an opposing player.
By finishing third in the 2024-25 Premier League table, Man City secured a Champions League berth. City has one Champions League title, winning the tournament’s 2022-23 edition (that same year, the team won the Premier League and the FA Cup, leading to City’s best season in franchise history).
In three games so far this season, Napoli remains undefeated; in fact, the 2024-25 Serie A champions have not lost a competitive game since February 2025.
