The 2025 Gold Cup semifinals get underway this evening, and the United States Men’s National Team is making its 13th consecutive appearance in this round against another familiar opponent: Guatemala.

Today’s semifinal marks the 26th time USA and Guatemala will go head-to-head and the third in this specific predicament; Team USA has the overall head-to-head edge with 16 victories.

Both teams advanced into the semifinals after winning their respective quarterfinal matches in penalty shootouts. The USMNT tied Costa Rica 2-2 before prevailing 4-3 on penalty kicks, while Guatemala eliminated Canada following a 1-1 draw. It’s only the second time in Gold Cup history that Guatemala has advanced within one game of the championship game.

Whoever wins tonight’s game will play the winner of Mexico vs. Honduras for the title on July 6.
