Midge Purce will return to Gotham FC for another season.

Purce has agreed to a one-year contract to remain with Gotham FC after helping the NWSL club win a league championship in November when they defeated the Washington Spirit

“Midge has been a driving force for our team both on and off the field,” general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham FC Yael Averbuch West said in a statement. “Her commitment to our club and ability on the field make her an invaluable part of what we’re building, and we’re thrilled to have her continue with us.”

The 30-year-old forward has spent the past five seasons with Gotham after joining the club by way of trade in 2020 from the Portland Thorns.

She appeared in 23 matches this past season for Gotham, notching one goal and one assist in 2025.

Purce returned to the team this past season on a one-year deal after missing the entire 2024 NWSL campaign with a torn ACL.

In an interview with Women’s Health, Purce said that it hadn’t been one particular aspect or moment that led her to the decision to return to Gotham for another season.

“When I would picture what my year would look like on the field, I kept going back to, ‘I want to play another year with Gotham and I want to play another year with this team,'” she told the outlet.

Purce added: “I just feel like I’m not done playing with them yet. It’s a really special thing.”

Gotham FC’s support during Purce’s recovery from her ACL injury possibly played a part in her decision-making as well.

Purce was injured during the club’s 2024 opener and marked the first time she had been away from the game of soccer for an extended period of time in 20 years, which she described as “hard” watching her teammates and being away from the squad, while also acknowledging the break was “really nice.”

The Gotham star credited head coach Juan Carlos Amorós and the club’s coaching staff for guiding her through the ups and downs of her recovery.

“Maybe that’s something that has resonated with me consciously and subconsciously about where I want to be [next season],” Purce said. “The unwavering support that I got through that was really special.”

Overall in her Gotham career, including the playoffs, Purce has 16 goals and eight assists. She was named the NWSL Championship match MVP in 2023 when she recorded two assists as Gotham won its first title.

The Harvard product has developed into a star in the NWSL on and off the pitch. She appeared in “Chicago” on Broadway earlier this year was and was on ESPN’s “ManningCast” during the Giants-Patriots “Monday Night Football” matchup on Dec. 1 shortly after Gotham captured its second league championship.

Purce was also a member of the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship-winning U.S. Women’s National Team and the 2024 W Gold Cup-winning USWNT squad, scoring in both tournaments.

She was originally selected in the 2017 NWSL Draft ninth overall by the Boston Breakers.

Her club career has also included two seasons with the Portland Thorns after she was taken fourth overall in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft.
