Uruguay 2 - 2 Cabo Verde
What a result for Cape Verde!
They rallied again in the second half to draw 2-2 with two-time World Cup winners Uruguay, coming back from 2-1 down in a hugely spirited display.
Late first-half goals from Araujo and Canobbio had flipped the game after Pina's piledriving free kick.
La Celeste started the second period strong, generating 2.34 xG.
But the Blue Sharks quickly attacked, with Cabral and Monteiro testing the defense before a gift-wrapped goal tied it up.
Olivera's terrible sidewards pass drew Muslera out of his box, and Cape Verde substitute Helio Varela seized the loose ball, tapping it into an empty net for 2-2.
Cape Verde created more chances, racking up 0.86 xG, with Monteiro, Pico Lopes, and Laros Duarte all having opportunities to complete the comeback and seal what would be a massive World Cup shock.
However, they also had to weather a storm as Uruguay pressed hard late, going close multiple times and even having a goal ruled out for offside against Araujo.
Rodriguez, Bentancur, and Valverde couldn't convert chances for a late lead, forcing La Celeste to settle for a 2-2 draw, leaving their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.
A confident Spain awaits Marcelo Bielsa's side, who have just two points from six.
Cape Verde will face Saudi Arabia, knowing they might not even need a win to reach the last 32.
After that performance, you'd fancy Cape Verde's chances against almost anyone.
