The Rangers have hockey fans at a crossroads. Half believe their 23-10-4 record is a fluke, a testament to elite goaltending and a couple of hot streaks. Others see this young Blueshirts squad, nearly four years removed from the infamous rebuild letter, as the real deal after a turnover in the front office and a handful of lineup-changing additions in the offseason.

Either way, the Rangers’ tantalizing success this season has all eyes on Broadway as the March 21 trade deadline steadily approaches.

Having already committed to $71.8 million against the 2022-23 cap — with new deals still needed for Kaapo Kakko, potentially Ryan Strome/Sammy Blais and a No. 2 goalie — the Rangers likely won’t be in the market for players that come with long-term contracts. Now, trading for a rental player is certainly on the table.
