PHOENIX — As the final buzzer sounded Friday night, Jackie Young heaved the ball to the sky.
Instead of retrieving the piece of history, the Aces gathered in a big circle, jumped, hugged and cheered.
There’s a lot of uncertainty regarding what happens next in the WNBA. But on this night, it was all about the Aces, who accomplished what some doubted they would be able to do when they were floundering midseason.
A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Young — the pillars of this Aces regime molded by coach Becky Hammon — sealed Las Vegas’ dynastic status with a 97-86 win to sweep the Mercury in the WNBA’s first best-of-seven series.
