It only took 53 years.
Two high school buddies from Staten Island are dusting off their makeshift banner from 1973 and reuniting for Thursday’s trip to the Knicks championship parade.
“You never give up hope when you’re a fan,” Doug Bertinelli, 71, told The Post. “You know that.”
Bertinelli and Pat Hannafin were teenagers when they dyed a bedsheet orange, dressed it up like a championship banner and carried it to City Hall for the celebration of Red Holzman’s last title.
