Swifties are not happy about Amazon broadcaster Al Michaels’ commentary about Taylor Swift during the Cardinals-Saints game on “Thursday Night Football.”
Swift made a virtual appearance on “TNF” to tease her 10th studio album, “Midnights,” hours before its release.
During the broadcast, Michaels discussed Swift’s fanbase, and seemed to imply that the singer is only popular among teenage girls.
“You have four sons, if you had a daughter she would be over the moon,” Michael told Kirk Herbstreit in the booth. “I have a granddaughter and she’s completely over the moon right now… nobody more popular among the teenage girl group than Taylor Swift.”
Michaels added that Swift is a “fantastic performer.” Herbstreit agreed, adding, “Worldwide.”
“All respect to Al Michaels, but dudes can be Taylor Swift fans, too,” ESPN NFL reporter Brooke Pryor tweeted, adding, “Whew the toxic masculinity is STRONG #onhere tonight“ in a separate tweet.
Taylor Swift teases her new album during an appearance on Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football during a game between the Cardinals and Saints on Oct. 20, 2022. TwitterPro Football Talk’s Michael Smith wasn’t a fan of Michaels’ comments either.
“The NFL wants to be in business with Taylor Swift in part because she appeals to a demographic that the NFL would like to reach more, but Al Michaels’ assumption that Kirk Herbstreit’s kids don’t like Taylor Swift because he has sons was kinda dumb,” Smith tweeted.
One person tweeted, “Hearing Al Michaels insinuate that boys can’t be excited for new Taylor Swift and shaking my head the whole time to show that I don’t agree with it.”
Al Michaels intimated only young girls are fans of Taylor Swift on Thursday. Richard Shotwell/Invision/APAnother added, “Someone tell Al Michaels that people over the age of 8 listen to Taylor Swift.”
