THE POST’S ALL-CITY GIRLS TRACK TEAM
Athlete of the Year:Claudia Francis, Benjamin Cardozo
The Oregon-bound Francis (right) ran the nation’s second fastest time this season indoors in the 800 meters (2:06.98) and the 10th best outdoors. She showed versatility running the 1,500 to the 400 at a high level and even hurdled. Cardozo won the PSAL indoor and outdoor titles and she was the anchor to its 4 x 400 relay, which ran the nation’s second best time indoors.
Coach of the Year:Cornel Johnson, DeWitt Clinton
Johnson is considered one of the city’s best coaches because of his athletes’ development and ability to excel as runners and jumpers. Scoring in a variety of events, Clinton won the PSAL Bronx indoor and outdoor titles while finishing second in cross country. The Governors also placed third in the PSAL city indoor and outdoor championships behind powers Cardozo and Medgar Evers.

THE POST’S ALL-CITY BOYS TRACK TEAM
Athlete of the Year: Strymar Livingston, Christopher Columbus
The electric junior (right) spent the indoor season running a record-setting campaign. Livingston set the national record in the 600 with a blazing mark of 1:17.64 at the PSAL championships. He broke the state record in the 500 with a time of 1:02.40, which is also the second best ever nationally. A groin injury slowed him in the spring, but he excelled in the 400 and 800 double, running the state’s fourth and fifth best times, respectively.
Coach of the Year: Claudel Martin, Thomas Jefferson
Martin and the Orange Wave completed the difficult task of winning a track meet in the field. Jefferson scored 60 of its 75 points in the field events and the pentathlon to take its first PSAL outdoor city title since 2003. Many of the athletes said it was a process learning the events, especially the javelin (in which Jefferson dominated), but Martin’s skilled teaching brought them along.

THE POST’S ALL-CITY BOYS TENNIS TEAM
Player of the Year: Quinton Vega, Beacon
One of the nation’s top recruits, the Wisconsin-bound Vega (above), with sharp groundstrokes and a solid net game, enjoyed a memorable senior season. He dropped just one match in team competition and served as a mentor to the Blue Demons’ younger players, leading them to a fourth straight PSAL Class A crown and second Mayor’s Cup title in school history.
Coach of the Year: Bayard Faithfull, Beacon
Sure, he’s been blessed with talent, but it hasn’t always been that way at Beacon. Faithfull has established the Manhattan school as the premier boys tennis program in the city with his strict but understanding ways. He deserves credit for Beacon’s best season yet — a fourth straight PSAL Class A crown, second Mayor’s Cup title in a row and a championship at the New England Mid-Atlantic Tournament, featuring the best teams on the East Coast.

THE POST’S ALL-CITY GIRLS TENNIS TEAM
Player of the Year:Leighann Sahagun, Cardozo
The Arizona State-bound superstar (above) capped her incredible career by winning a second PSAL individual title. Sahagun, ranked No. 21 in the Class of 2011 by tennisrecruiting.net, led Cardozo back to the PSAL Class A team finals, but the Judges were unable to win for a fourth straight year. The Flushing, Queens native was also named an All-American.
Coach of the Year:Victoria D’Orazio, Goldstein
Goldstein has been at the doorstep the last few years, but D’Orazio guided the Dolphins to their first-ever PSAL Class A team title this season. Still a young squad with almost everyone returning, Goldstein bested three-time defending champion Cardozo in the final. The Dolphins also came within points of ending St. Francis Prep’s 11-year Mayor’s Cup reign.
