JET REPORT CARD

QUARTERBACKS: D+

Vinny Testaverde (11-of-18, 140 yards, 1 INT, 62.3 rating) didn’t throw the ball poorly in the few moments when he had time to throw. Backup Brooks Bollinger (12-20, 94) showed some spark.

RUNNING BACKS: D

Curtis Martin (14-for-28, 1 TD rushing, 3-26 receiving) had few places to run and the offense was so disjointed it’s im possible to get a rhythm.

WIDE RECEIVERS: C

Laveranues Coles (9-96) had a strong night. Wayne Chrebet (4-37) made one particularly nice catch, but dropped an other critical one.

TIGHT ENDS: D

Chris Baker (1-8) and Doug Jolley (no catches) weren’t much in the blocking game, either.

OFFENSIVE LINE: F

Pete Kendall, replacing the injured Kevin Mawae at C, had a bad one by his admission, helping to cause three first- half turnovers with a botched snap and two sack/forced fumbles. He had help, though.

DEFENSIVE LINE: C

There was some decent pressure on Michael Vick by DEs John Abraham (1 ½ sacks, 5 tackles), Bryan Thomas (half-sack) and Shaun Ellis (4 tackles).

LINEBACKERS: D

Jonathan Vilma had seven tackles, Mark Brown had six and Victor Hobson three. But they were all culprits in the Falcons’ running game.

SECONDARY: C

CBs Ty Law and David Barrett had INTs. Barrett also had a great pass breakup in the end zone early. S Erik Coleman had seven tackles. S Kerry Rhodes had four tackles and a forced fumble.

SPECIAL TEAMS: B

Kenyatta Wright was called for a killer holding penalty that negated a 95-yard Justin Miller KO return for a TD. Even with that, Miller averaged 33.3 yards on 3 re turns. Jerricho Cotchery had an 18-yard punt return. Coverage was strong.

KICKING GAME: B

P Ben Graham (5 for 46.6-yard gross and 43.2-yard net) was, perhaps, the Jets’ most consistent performer. K Mike Nugent never had a chance for a FG.

COACHING: D

Everyone insisted the Jets had a great week of practice. Problem was, they looked ill-prepared on offense. Defen sively, they, too, have forgotten how to stop the run. Not a good night for anyone on the staff with the exception of Mike Westhoff.
