ANAHEIM, Calif. — No matter what Anthony Volpe does, he seems to frustrate a certain portion of the Yankees fan base. 

Perhaps that is because he is not Derek Jeter. Or on more equal footing, he has not become a star as quickly as Bobby Witt Jr. or Gunnar Henderson, other shortstops in his own draft class. 

But somewhat quietly, the 24-year-old has settled into a solid stretch early in Year 3, offering some promise of the kind of consistency he has largely been missing during his time with the Yankees. 

After going 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a 10-pitch walk in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over the Angels, Volpe was batting .245 with a .765 OPS.
