Arch Manning was supposed to follow in the footsteps of his famous uncles, Peyton and Eli, this fall. Bill Belichick was going to make football matter at North Carolina again.
They were the two biggest stories in college football entering the season, the next Manning leading the top-ranked team in the country and the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach bringing his brilliant football mind to college.
So far, they have been complete flops, highlighted by a dreadful Saturday for both. Manning threw two more interceptions and couldn’t rally sluggish Texas in a dismal loss at struggling Florida. Belichick and North Carolina were trampled by three-loss Clemson, and have been outscored 120-33 by their three power-conference opponents.
The two have been major disappointments, right up there with Clemson and Penn State.
