Emily Mayfield, the wife of new Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield, shared a heartfelt message Wednesday as she said farewell to Cleveland.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Emily — who has been married to Mayfield since July 2019 — revealed that she was packing up their Ohio home as the couple settles into their new life in North Carolina, where the 27-year-old quarterback was last month by the Browns.

“It’s obviously been an emotional couple of days,” Emily began. “Baker and I left last season, truly expecting to come back for another season (like the previous 4 years). No part of me thought it’d be the last time we’d leave that house together or the last time we’d shut it down to head out on our off-season adventures.”

Emily then reflected on the countless memories she and Mayfield made while living there.

“We bought that house before we were even engaged. We came back to that house after our honeymoon. We made friends. We danced in that kitchen. We had friends over for bbqs and bonfires. I cooked my first thanksgiving meal for Us + friends. We had our first Christmas there together; set up and decorated our first Christmas tree there. I am leaving cleveland with such fond memories. Im leaving this house with a full heart,” Emily shared.

“This week brought A LOT of tears. It brought tons of nostalgia. But im so happy I felt those feelings…. it means it was a good ride,” she continued. “More adventures will come. More homes will house memories. But there’s just something about that first place……”

Emily concluded her message by telling fans that Cleveland will “forever hold a special place” in her heart.

Mayfield, the Browns’ first overall pick in 2018, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in Cleveland, where he helped lead the team to a playoff berth in 2020. The following year, however, the Browns failed to replicate that same magic as Mayfield also played through injuries.

In March, the Browns made the surprising trade with the Texans for Mayfield’s replacement, Deshaun Watson. Cleveland immediately signed Watson to a five-year deal worth $230 million, fully guaranteed.

Though Mayfield had been linked to the Panthers in the months following the Watson acquisition, he remained with the Browns until July, when the team traded him to Carolina for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024. On Monday, the Panthers announced that Mayfield had been named the starting quarterback after a training camp battle against Sam Darnold.

Mayfield spoke to reporters this week about what it means to face his former Browns team in Week 1 of the regular season.

“There’s a lot of attachment there,” the quarterback said. “I’m not going to sit here and be a robot and say it doesn’t mean anything, it will.”

Mayfield threw for 3,010 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions through 14 regular-season games last year.
