The New York Racing Association announced yesterday it is instituting a new policy this year for the Belmont Stakes on June 7, requiring all entered horses to be stabled in the same barn the night before the race.

Barn 5, located at the entrance to the horse tunnel leading to the paddock, has been designated the Belmont Stakes barn. All Belmont runners must be stabled there no later than 3 p.m. Friday, June 6.

“We’ve been trying to get all the horses and horsemen to the paddock on time, and this is a convenient location,” said NYRA president Terry Meyocks. “Plus it allows for greater security for the horses, to protect the integrity of our signature race and make sure everybody is on a level playing field.”
