Devils sparkplug Sergei Brylin told The Post yesterday that his ravaged right knee will probably require surgical repair someday. Just not now.

Brylin sat out Wednesday’s 5-2 victory over the Rangers, but hopes to face the Islanders tonight at the Meadowlands, bracing up his knee and gutting out the pain he endures from the anterior cruciate ligament tear he suffered Sept. 19, 1997.

“I was really pleased with the way it was this morning,” the 27-year-old said yesterday, after practicing with the team. Brylin is enjoying his best start ever, having played all 22 games before Wednesday, tied for fourth in team scoring with 17 points

“I think it will [require repair], but I’ve talked to doctors who have said that even if I go for surgery, nobody will guarantee it will be 100 percent afterwards,” Brylin said. “There’s a good chance I’ll need it, but I’ve been playing like this for three years, so there’s no reason to think about surgery right now.”
