ST RACE – In race guaranteed to have fast pace because Mayor Steve was running, Skipper Kipper surprisingly was made chalk. Mayor Steve rushed out to fast pace and had lead turning home. Only Western Beau had enough ability to catch tiring pacesetter in stretch to gain win. Skipper Kipper, who usually battles for early lead, was bumped at start and ran evenly to be fourth.

ND RACE – Grand V. stalked pace and on far turn took over lead. In stretch, he was facing challenge from 55-1 Gold N Fancy, with newly arrived apprentice Roberto Villafan riding. At 70-yard pole, Villafan stood up, thinking race was over. When he realized he stood up too early, Villafan got back down and pumped hard, trying to catch Grand V, but wire arrived and Gold N Fancy finished neck short. The misjudging of finish probably cost him race and Villafan will meet with stewards this morning about incident.

TH RACE – Candy Haze set solid pace and turning for home looked as if she would draw away to victory. But in midstretch, Candy Haze hit wall, started switching leads constantly and was begging to be caught. Any Scoop, coming off victory versus state-breds when switching to dirt and now trying open company on dirt for trainer Joe Lostritto, closed fast to catch tiring pacesetter and gain victory.

TH RACE – Favored Affirmed Success, making his first two-turn dirt start since 1997 Travers, broke well but was caught three wide entering clubhouse turn. Nearing far turn, Richard Migliore let Affirmed Success go out for lead and tried to draw away from field. He had lead turning for home, but Boston Party had dead aim on favorite. Under Shaun Bridgmohan, Boston Party closed furiously and caught favorite nearing wire for victory.

TH RACE – Favored Hope’s Expectation stalked pacesetting Southern Promise while under hard hold by Bridgmohan. Hope’s Expectation then took over lead and tried to draw away. Northeast Winds was closing well in stretch and tried to catch favorite but was too late.
