CBS News is pushing back after Bill Belichick slammed the network in a statement for creating a “false narrative” around his disastrous “CBS Sunday Morning” interview that aired over the weekend.
Belichick asserted in the statement that he had “clearly communicated” to his publicist at Simon & Schuster that any interview he did for the promotion of his book, “The Art of Winning,” would only focus on the book.
However, a CBS News spokesperson rebutted that the outlet had made any agreement on any “preconditions or limitations” on what would be asked during the sit-down.
Jordon Hudson reportedly interrupted Bill Belichick’s interview with CBS, which aired on April 27, 2025, multiple times. YouTube/CBS“When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,” a CBS News spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday. “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
The CBS news magazine program interview has turned into a massive headache for Belichick and the University of North Carolina, after the awkward segment became even more uncomfortable when Jordon Hudson, the coach’s 24-year-old girlfriend and seeming PR rep, shut down an attempt to ask Belichick a question about how the couple met.
Hudson and Belichick during the interview. CBS“We’re not talking about this,” Hudson interjected — a moment that made it into the final cut that aired on the usually feel-good program.
The bizarre moment, coupled with an uncomfortable instance when Belichick was asked by interviewer Tony Dokoupil about Patriots owner Robert Kraft not being mentioned in the book, has created an unintended cloud over the coach and raised red flags with people around him.
TMZ reported that Hudson had interrupted the interview “numerous” times and that she had even stormed off the set, wanting Belichick to follow her, delaying the interview 30 minutes.
In the days that followed, the outlet also reported that people at Chapel Hill were becoming concerned about Hudson’s influence over Belichick, with a source saying there was a “growing sense this could become a problem.”
One former Patriots player, Ted Johnson, even told WEEI this week that UNC “should consider firing Bill Belichick.”
Hudson had attempted to clap back at her detractors by reposting people on X defending her and she released a fiery email that Belichick purportedly wrote complaining about the first wave of media coverage of his book earlier this month.
And in his statement released on Wednesday, through the University of North Carolina, he defended Hudson as “simply doing her job” and accused CBS News of “selectively editing clips” from “just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative – that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true.”
