CHANEY COURTING JONES
BOSTON – Don Chaney is leaving no stone unturned as he compiles his Knicks’ assistant-coaching candidate list. Former Celtics legend K.C. Jones, attending last night’s Nets’ playoff game at FleetCenter, told The Post that Chaney has contacted him.
“I spoke to him,” said Jones, seated next to Bob Cousy. “He said I’m on the list.”
Jones will turn 71 years old later this month and last coached in the NBA as an assistant on Chaney’s Pistons’ staff in 1994-95. Jones last coached in the women’s ABL for the New England Blizzard.
Former Celtics legend Dave Cowens is a top candidate. The Post reported Cowens’ potential candidacy in March when he said of returning as an assistant, “I definitely would if I could work for a guy like Don Chaney. He’s a sweetheart.”
