The first cable network carrying 24 hours of all-college sports is opening street-level studios at the Chelsea Piers.

The new network, College Sports Television, begins construction next week and expects to start live broadcasts from its interactive waterfront studios in four months.

Bankrolled by private Wall Street investors, the college sports channel was created by the sports zealots who founded the Classic Sports Network, which they sold to ESPN. “We’re going to have the deepest sports programming around,” said Brian Bedol, CEO of the channel, CSTV.

He said CSTV has deals to cover sports at more than 250 colleges, and agreements with 33 major collegiate conferences.

All sports will be covered – from football and soccer to golf and track. Programming will feature all-day newsreels on teams, coaches, recruiters and players, and in-depth looks at national rankings.

Bedol is aiming in the first year for 10 million subscribers, who’ll buy the channel as a digital package. He said the channel is in talks with Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and DirecTV to sell the programming in their respective digital cable packages.

The studios, which will be open to the public, will host events and fan activities ranging from college coaches’ and players’ clinics to sit-downs with all-star players and top coaches.

Other founders are former Nike marketing guru Chris Bevilacqua, who is CSTV executive vice president, and CSTV chairman Stephen Greenberg, who was a co-founder with Bedol of Classic Sports Network.
