Jet Report Card
QUARTERBACKS: F
Chad Pennington (22-36, 252 yards, 1 TD, 2 TDs) didn’t play well. Most of his statistical production came in garbage time.
RUNNING BACKS: F
Curtis Martin (13-33 rushing, 5-44 receiving) was no factor. The offensive coordinator forgot that LaMont Jordan (2-6) is productive when used.
WIDE RECEIVERS: C
Santana Moss (2-32, 1 TD) didn’t catch a pass until the Jets were down 23-0. Justin McCareins had five catches for 76 yards, but most came too late.
TIGHT ENDS: F
No catches for Anthony Becht and Chris Baker and the run-blocking wasn’t even good this time.
OFFENSIVE LINE: F
Maybe the worst performance of the season from the line. The stats were damning: 2.6 yards per carry and three sacks allowed.
DEFENSIVE LINE: D
DE Bryan Thomas played well with seven tackles and several QB pressures. They did a decent job slowing down Corey Dillon, but failed to register a sack.
LINEBACKERS: D
Jonathan Vilma (11 tackles and a sack) had the only sack in the game for the Jets. There were no real impact plays from this group.
SECONDARY: D
FS Erik Coleman led the way with 11 tackles, though he had some coverage problems. Overall, the secondary didn’t break up a single pass.
SPECIAL TEAMS: C
Jerricho Cotchery averaged 19.4 yards on KO returns. McCareins averaged only six yards on three punt returns. Kick and punt coverage was solid.
KICKING GAME: D
P Toby Gowin averaged 31.4 yards gross and 26.8 yards net on five punts. No action for K Doug Brien.
COACHING: D
Across the board, the Jets were out-coached. Offensive coordinator Paul Hackett generated no rhythm for his players. Defensively, the Jets went after Tom Brady, who burned them on blitzes with screen passes.
