The Knicks may still trade Latrell Sprewell, but they may have to scratch one possible taker off their list. Dallas owner Mark Cuban said his Mavericks have no interest in swapping Sprewell for Nick Van Exel, who went on the injured list Monday following right knee surgery.

“That’s the New York papers. That’s their job, to make up stuff,” Cuban said before his Mavs faced the Nets last night. When asked if there was any truth to the reports, he said: “Nothing. I would say so. I would tell you the truth, but no, there’s no interest in trading Nick Van Exel for Latrell Sprewell.

“There’s no interest in trading Nick Van Exel for some combination of guys on the Knicks. There’s nothing there. There’s always interest in trading for a good player, but what we’d be willing to offer they’re probably not willing to take.”

Of reports of GM Scott Layden trying to deal the Knicks’ $4.5 million injury exception for Shawn Bradley, who has six years, $26 million left on his contract and is averaging 9.2 ppg and 8.4 rebounds, Cuban said: “Are you kidding me? No. We didn’t use our $4.5 million exception. What good is it going to do to have another one from somebody else? No, no interest.”
