A day later, Tom Thibodeau’s delay in calling timeout to reinsert Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart into the Knicks’ frustrating Game 5 loss to the Pistons remained a national story.

The longtime coach was criticized by fans and talking heads for waiting too long to use his final timeout to get Brunson and Hart into the game.

When the two departed with minor injuries and 2:57 remaining, the Knicks trailed by two. There were only 27.4 seconds left, and the deficit had grown to six, when he Thibodeau finally called time and put them back in.

Thibodeau called it a “coach’s decision,” and said, “a lot goes into it.”
