Devils win pre-season finale Winding up the exhibition season, Randy McKay scored twice as the Devils held on for a 4-3 victory over the Islanders last night at the Meadowlands.

Rookie Steve Brule and McKay gave the Devils a two-goal lead in the first, when they outshot the Isles 18-3. Sergei Nemchinov made it 3-0 early in the second before Mark Lawrence and Jamie Heward connected against Martin Brodeur. McKay added his second of the night against Felix Potvin as New Jersey took a 4-2 lead into the third. Tim Connolly brought the Isles within one in the third with his first preseason goal.

New Jersey finished 6-3-0-1 in preseason, while the Isles fell to 2-4-0-1.
