Winless in their last four games – their longest slide of the season – the Devils look to get back on track tonight when they host the Caps at the Meadowlands. The Devils will be looking for their first win since they went 13 straight games without a loss during an amazing streak that ended last week.

The Caps have won two straight games for the first time this season after dismantling the Islanders at the Coliseum Tuesday. Washington was the last NHL team to put together back-to-back wins this year.

“It wasn’t lost on us,” Capitals goalie Olaf Kolzig said at the Coliseum. “We’ve been awful for the first two months, but now we’re starting to turn it around a bit.”

As for the Devils, they’re beginning to sputter a bit. A 3-1 loss to Phoenix Tuesday that brought their record to 0-2-2 in their last four is hardly enough to cause the defending Cup champs to panic, however.

“It’s only a couple of losses in what, 16 games?” said Scott Stevens, who was a rookie with the Caps in 1982. “I don’t know if we’re in a slump yet.”
