Shohei Ohtani has become a walking superlative, and the only ways to contextualize the level at which he’s hit over the past few seasons are either within history or against Aaron Judge.

Case in point, here’s the list of players who hit the following criteria in consecutive seasons while qualifying for a batting title: 6-plus WAR, 40-plus home runs, 100-plus runs scored, 1.000-plus OPS, .300-plus batting average with an OPS+ or 180 or greater:

Barry Bonds, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Shohei Ohtani, who is threatening to hit all those marks for a third straight year.

At the plate, though, Ohtani actually has comparables. Judge, whose .378 average after the weekend is on pace to be the best of any qualified player in the 21st century, currently might be better.
