What we have here is a good old-fashioned unhinged radio rant.

Don La Greca, who has been known to dabble in such content, fielded a phone call from Mike in New Jersey, who said that La Greca had made “one of the most moronic comments I’ve ever heard.”

The gist of the observation that the caller thought was dumb is that La Greca argued that Joey Gallo, currently hitting .166, was not hurting the Yankees. La Greca’s rationale was that the Yankees are 61-25 and have a 14.5-game lead over the Red Sox in the AL East.

The argument went around in circles, with the caller saying Gallo is hurting the team because he stinks and La Greca continuing to argue that the Yankees have been fine. An example:

La Greca: How is it hurting them?
Caller: He gets an out every time!
La Greca: IT’S NOT HURTING THEM!!!!! IF HE BATS .000, THE TEAM IS 40 GAMES ABOUT .500!!

You get the point. Eventually, La Greca swore on his kids’ souls that Gallo would not be playing for the Yankees to hurt them in the postseason if he continues to perform as he has.

Finally, the caller really struck a nerve when he said, for a second time, that La Greca would not have his career without Michael Kay (who was out on vacation).

“Stop with your Michael Kay!” La Greca barked. “I’m on the air. I worked at The Fan before Michael Kay! I do Rangers games without Michael Kay! 16 years! Doing pre and post games for the Jets! Guess what? No Michael Kay!”

The man was far from finished.

“I got a podcast that’s in the top 50 in every country in the planet. No Michael Kay! I have two kids! I’ve had a wife for 17 years! Guess what! No Michael Kay! I’ve got hair that people would die to have! Michael Kay, nothing! I’m a fabulous driver! Michael Kay’s got nothing to do with it! I’m one of the best friends you can ever had in your life.”

La Greca concluded that the caller would not insult him like this to his face, and reiterated that he would have a career in sports talk radio with or without Kay.
